"About The Club" was the first item in the old Witton Albion website's menu and the page every other part of the site linked back to. It was a practical page rather than a historical one: who was in charge, who to ring, how to get to the ground and what it cost. Read now, it is a record of a non-league club at a particular moment, the two seasons either side of the summer of 2008.

Everything below is taken from archived copies of that page and is long out of date. Nothing here should be used to contact the club or plan a visit; for that, see the section on the club today.

Officials and staff

The page was headed "Witton Albion FC Ltd. Established 1887". The copy archived in May 2008, at the end of the 2007–08 season, listed these officials:

RoleMay 2008April 2009

ChairmanMike WorthingtonMark Harris (acting)
DirectorsGraham Edgeley, Paul Worthington, Mark HarrisGraham Edgeley, Paul Worthington, Mark Harris
Company secretaryGeoff GloverGeoff Glover

First-team managerJim VinceNigel Deeley
Assistant managerNigel DeeleyNot listed
Reserve-team managerNeil GillNot listed

The page also named the ground safety officer, the club doctor, the physiotherapist, the kit manager and the managers of the social club and the club shop.

The two columns record the upheaval of May 2008. Within days of the play-off defeat by Buxton, Jim Vince resigned after a disagreement with the chairman, Mike Worthington, who then left the club himself. Mark Harris, already a director, took over as acting chairman. Vince was briefly reappointed and then stood down again on health grounds, and Nigel Deeley, his assistant, became manager on 28 May 2008.

The April 2009 column also shows that the page was not kept up to date. Deeley had been dismissed five months earlier, on 2 November 2008, and Gary Finley was managing the team, but the page still named Deeley.

Going to a match in 2007–08

Admission to league matches at Wincham Park in 2007–08 was:

CategoryPrice
Adults£9
Over-65s and students£5.50
Youths aged 14 to 17£4
Under-14sFree

There was no segregation of supporters and no extra charge for a seat in the stand. Cup ties could be priced differently. Midweek home matches were normally played on Tuesdays, with a 7.45pm kick-off according to the fixture lists.

The page gave road directions from junction 19 of the M6: along the A556 towards Northwich, then the A559, and finally into Wincham Lane, with the ground on the left just after the canal. Parking was free, at the Lostock end of the ground, although the turnstiles were at the Wincham end.

By way of comparison, the average crowd for a league match that season was 483; the figures for every game are in the fixtures and results archive.

The club today

Witton Albion are still at Wincham Park, at Chapel Street, Wincham, Northwich. The ground now carries a sponsor's name: the club's website and the Northern Premier League both give it as the Bedspace Trust Community Stadium. Its capacity is 4,813.

In 2026–27 the first team plays in the Northern Premier League's Division One West. The club remains a limited company and runs teams from under-9s upwards alongside the senior side. Adult admission, which was £9 in 2007–08, was listed at £12 on the club's website in 2026.

The club's own official website is at wittonalbionfc.co.uk, and that is the place to go for fixtures, tickets, contact details and news. This archive is not connected with the club and cannot answer questions on its behalf.

For how the club came to be at Wincham Park, see the club history; for its record on the pitch, see league history and honours and FA competitions.

Sources and notes

The 2008 and 2009 lists of officials are from the Internet Archive's copies of the page dated 19 May 2008 and 10 April 2009. The page also carried telephone numbers and an email address for individual members of staff; they are not reproduced here. The account of the changes of manager and chairman in May 2008 draws on the club's own news story of that month, summarised in the 2006–08 news digest, and on later published accounts.

Club history

A Northwich club that traces its first match to October 1887, spent almost eighty years at the Central Ground in the middle of the town and has played at Wincham Park since 1989.

League history and honours

From the Northwich and District League in 1892 to three Cheshire County League titles, the Northern Premier League championship of 1990–91 and three seasons in the Football Conference: the club's league record, with a season-by-season table from 1989–90.

FA competitions

Three FA Cup second-round appearances, a televised tie with Bolton Wanderers, three FA Trophy semi-finals in three years and a Wembley final against Colchester United in 1992, plus the players who went on from Witton to the Football League.

Sponsorship and commercial

A historical record of the sponsorship packages Witton Albion advertised in 2008 and 2009, the local firms that backed the club and the fundraising nights held at Wincham Park. None of it is on offer from this archive.

Squads 2007–09

Two very different squads: the settled group of 22 that finished second in the Northern Premier League in 2007–08, and the 48 players who passed through Wincham Park during the relegation season that followed.
